Today’s dental practices are vastly complex and much different than they were 20 years ago. With the advent of technology, infusion of healthcare regulatory rulings and mandates a practitioner is now tasked with being the CEO, CFO, HR , IT Associate and the Dentist. Securing a better understanding of their overall business as a practitioner and helping close the gap exposed in a poorly managed practice will provide them the means to manage financial partnerships, communicate to their staff, vendors, and ultimately their patients which in the end will create a more cohesive and healthy practice.

The main points disseminated in this presentation will provide today’s healthcare provider with the basic business principles of managing a practice more successfully. This will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Financial Management – Understanding how better managing your finances can provide peace-of-mind and ultimately better business practices that lead to healthier patient relationships.

  • Management Principles - How to communicate, manage and provide leadership to both your patients and team.

  • Maintaining Good Credit – Comprehending the nuances of business credit and the importance of maintaining this credit as it relates to the overall health, wellness and reputation of the practice.

  • Making Smart Financial Decisions – Dissecting and explaining the basics of financial principles enabling their ability to make more sound decisions on practice financing.

Mr. Dawson will discuss the role of Advocacy in the Dental Health Profession. Particular focus will be given to recent changes in dentistry since the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Dawson will also explain how those changes have impacted the practice of dentistry and patient care. Finally, he will discuss the future of Dentistry, and how the American Dental Association and the Hispanic Dental Association are working together to move the oral health agenda forward.

Objective: To educate the audience about the role of advocacy in the development and shaping of oral health policy.

The participants will identify leadership skills they are developing in dental school. They will learn about the additional skills needed to be high performance leaders through the lifecycle of their careers and how to use HDA to develop those skills, starting now.
